Our Policies & FAQ

What if it’s my first class?

Great! Welcome! We’re glad you’re here. We aim to welcome everyone equally and provide a safe, supportive environment. No matter your level, our instructors are trained and ready to assist you with variations and modifications specifically for you. If you have concerns, please reach out. To ensure a smooth start to class, please arrive 10-15 minutes before class so you can get yourself situated, check-in, and sign any waivers. If you’re running behind, just call the studio or reach out to your instructor.

Once class begins, there is a 15-minute grace period before you’ll be unable to enter class for safety reasons. Remember: No one knows your body better than you; if something feels weird, let us know! We will happily provide you modifications, or you can sit out an exercise if you wish. No pressure.

And as it’s your first class, make sure to take advantage of our first-timer specials here and be sure to check out our “What to Expect in Your First Class” article .

I've never tried pole dancing. Can I come to any class? Where do I start?

So you want to try Pole Dancing? AWESOME! At Waikapu Danceworks, we believe in safety and proper progressions (among other things), so we require all our new pole students take the proper fundamental classes before moving on to more advanced classes. That means everyone starts with either an Intro Pole Class or Workshop, or our 6-Week Intro to Pole Dance Series. You can read more about this policy HERE

What do we wear?

This is one of the most asked questions we get (and the reason we sell clothing at the studio). We have made this handy-dandy cheatsheet for what to expect and what to wear in your first class. Read it HERE.  When in doubt, call us…or just wear something comfortable, bring a paid of shoes just in case, and always bring water.

Where do we park?

Waikapu Danceworks has designated parking spots in the front of the studio, and it’s first come, first serve.  You can also  park anywhere along either side of the street before or after the studio. There is also a crosswalk and bus stop directly in front of the studio! We also recommend carpooling for parking, and because it’s always more fun to workout with a friend!

How do I sign up?

Waikapu Danceworks highly recommends signing up online, in advance. You will need to download our app and create an account and after that, it’s smooth sailing. You can see our current online schedule and register HERE. You will need to purchase a class package, membership, drop-in, series, or workshop before you are registered.

What’s the difference between a class, a series, a membership, and a pop-up?

You have SO many options at Waikapu Danceworks, and we admit it can be confusing, so here’s a breakdown:

Drop-ins and Group Classes:

If you are looking at the app, you’ll find classes marked in BLUE. These are regularly-scheduled and although they may change slightly from month-to-month, you will always find these on the schedule.

You can use Drop-ins, Class Packs, or Memberships to take classes. Please note there are some memberships that only apply to specific classes.

Pop-ups:

Pop-up classes are a chance to try something new! We offer a different one (or several) every month. Sometimes this means a completely new class concept, and sometimes this means a different day or time to gauge interest to adding a new session.

Make sure to try these and let us know your feedback! The more you love a class, the more likely it is to show up on the permanent schedule!

You can use your regular class packs, drop-ins, or WD Memberships to take these.

Series:

A series has a specific start and a specific end and if you miss a class, there are no make-ups. You will see these marked in PINK on the online schedule.

Make sure you can commit to the entire series BEFORE you sign up. Once you hit that “buy” button, there are no refunds and once the series starts, you forfeit your classes if you cancel or miss.

You will need to buy a series separately from your class packs and members get 10% off in-studio series sessions.

Workshops:

A Workshop or Guest Workshop is a one-time session that usually last longer than the typical class. These must be purchased separately. Please be advised that a Guest Instructor Workshop is non-refundable AND non-transferable, meaning you show up, or you lose that class completely (aka no account credits). These are shown in GREEN on the online schedule.

Members, take 10% off your in-studio workshops.

Do I have to be fit to try Pole or Aerial?

Absolutely not! Do you need to be clean to take a shower? We teach you at YOUR level, so we focus on safety, proper progression, strength, and confidence-building. You will learn at your level and on your timeframe. You build the stregnth by coming to class!

What kinds of classes do you offer?

A better question would be, “What classes DON’T we offer?”

We have SO MANY fun choices. Here are a few: Pole Dancing, Burlesque, Barre, Aerial Silks, Aerial Lyra, Aerial Hammock & Yoga, Lap Dancing, Chair Dancing, Adult Ballet, Flexibility and Conditioning, Social Dancing (like Salsa, Blues, Swing, etc), Twerking, Heels Choreography, Flow Yoga, Pilates, Bootcamps, Cardio Kickboxing… you get the idea.

Our schedule changes monthly and features guest instructors, teacher trainings, pop-up classes, series sessions, and more. Check it out! Let’s have some fun!

I’m pregnant. Are your classes safe for pregnancy?

Yes and no. Always remember that each pregnancy is unique, and what might be suitable for one woman may not be suitable for another. The best approach is to work closely with a qualified healthcare provider or prenatal fitness specialist who can provide tailored guidance based on the individual’s health and pregnancy condition.

That being said, exercising during pregnancy can be beneficial for both the mother and the baby. However, it’s essential to be aware of certain limitations and potential risks. Be sure to get permission from your physician and tell your instructor. Some classes are better suited than others (for example Barre and Stretch classes would be perfect, but starting something new like Aerial Silks might not be the best option).

The general rule of thumb is that you don’t start something new. If you were active before your pregnancy, you can certainly be active during your pregnancy, but again, ask your doctor!

Do you offer privates or parties?

YES! And we love private lessons, small groups, and parties! You can schedule your private session for one, two, three, … up to 16 people! Please call the studio to schedule a time and day. You can take a private in any of our offerings from Barre to Burlesque, Lyra to Lap Dancing, and everything in between!

See more HERE

Do you have classes for kids?

Yes! We love our keiki! We offer classes for ages 18 months and up, though not every week. Please see our monthly schedule for current class offerings, or schedule a private lesson or private group!

Is Waikapu Danceworks women-only?

Absolutely NOT! We have male students of all ages and fitness levels and male instructors. Everyone is welcome at Waikapu Danceworks!

What are your hours?

We are open 7 days a week, during class times. You might catch us there in between classes and lessons (usually deep cleaning), but if you want to be 100% sure to catch us, give us a call, or come 15 minutes before a scheduled class time.

What’s your cancellation policy?

You can find our full cancelation policy HERE.

Early cancellation will result in a credit back to your account for the exact class, series, or workshop purchased. Sorry, no refunds on any class, workshop, series, etc. Please note guest instructor workshops are non-refundable, regardless of when a cancellation takes place.

Please note expiration dates, no exceptions. All regularly scheduled classes have a 24-hour advanced cancellation policy, and some workshops have up to a 72-hour cancellation policy. You must cancel your class via the app or your online account 24 hours before the start of your class. Failure to cancel online within the time allocation will result in a late cancel/no show and you will forfeit your class payment/class credit. Early cancellation will result in a credit back to your account for the specific class purchased.

NO REFUNDS will be given. No exceptions.

I'm visiting Maui. What's the best offer you have for visitors?

Aloha! Welcome to Maui! We’re so excited that you want to workout while on vacation! Your best bet is to try our 3 classes for $49. It’s good for 7 days and gives you the option to take any regular class we offer. If you aren’t sure if you can commit, then I would just try our drop-in offers. Your first class is $5 off. Give us a call (or send an email) if you have questions or need help registering! Or grab your first-timer class HERE

Can I drop into a class?

YES! You can always buy a drop-in class. Some offerings do not allow drop-ins (like our series sessions), but almost everything else allows you to drop-in and try before you commit to a package or membership. Come try a class!

Do you have restrooms?

Yes! We have a private restroom just for our students. We’ll show you where when you come!

Do you provide water?

We do sell branded water bottles, but at this time we do not supply filtered water. From experience, the tap water isn’t bad. ?

What happens is there is bad weather or a fire on the pali?

Our policy is safety first. In the event of natural disasters or inclement weather, you will be notified of studio closures by your instructors. Please reach out to the studio if you are unsure.

What are your Covid-19 Safety Protocols?

Waikapu Danceworks is cleaned after every class and sanitized every day. We take cleanliness and organization very seriously (just ask the two OCD owners). We do not require masks or vaccinations.
